While studying abroad in Scotland, I took a course on Nations & Nationalism. For an assigned essay, I chose to look into and discuss the ways a nation is built as an imagined community, basing my arguments on theories of social contracts and the human need to belong in a community. This essay also discusses the ways the state takes advantage of this to spread a sense of nationalism amongst their people.
