One of my final political science courses was Policy Analysis, focused on the skills and knowledge required to conduct policy analysis and draft policy recommendations. To put our new policy analysis skills to use, we were assigned local issues to research, analyze, and draft policy recommendations for in small groups. My group was focused on the migrant crisis faced by Worcester, Massachusetts at the local level. We researched data, assessed the issue, traced stress points, analyzed current policies, and concluded with a series of policy recommendations, focusing on the benefit of affordable housing as a solution.
