CMLT 210 Final Histories Held Hostage: The Ethical Implications of the Smithsonian’s Human Remains Collection
The course CMLT 210: The History and Politics of Modern Museums included much of discussion on different debates to do with the modern museum. The final research project was one of our own design and focus. As a Filipino American, I am passionate about learning and educating others on my cultural heritage. When I read a Washington Post article about the Filipino remains in the Smithsonian brain collection, I knew it was something I would want to research more about. This paper discusses the collection, its history, and what the Smithsonian should be doing about it now.
